GAME LOG
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) _ Rafael Palmeiro wants to hit his 400th home
run in Texas. And he doesn't plan to stop there. Palmeiro hit homer No. 399 at the Metrodome Tuesday night and
then left the game in the sixth inning as the Minnesota Twins
cruised to a 15-7 win over the Rangers. ``He won't play tomorrow,'' Texas manager Johnny Oates said of
Palmeiro. ``He'll play this weekend in Texas.'' ``That's the plan,'' said Palmeiro. After Wednesday night's game at the Metrodome, the Rangers will
travel home to face Anaheim on Friday. Palmeiro hit his 38th homer of the season, moving into a tie
with Al Kaline for 32nd on the career list. ``It's nice to accomplish something like that,'' Palmeiro said
as he closes in on homer No. 400. ``But I want to keep it going and
reach 500.'' Jacque Jones hit a three-run homer _ his 19th _ and a two-run
single for Minnesota, which has won three straight for the first
time since July 24-27. ``It's just a number,'' Jones said of the 20-homer mark. ``You
can't get caught up in those.'' Jones, who has 73 RBIs, had nine homers and 44 RBIs as a rookie
last season. Cristian Guzman was 4-for-5 with three RBIs and rookie Luis
Rivas was 4-for-6 with two RBIs as the Twins set season highs for
runs and hits (20). Matt Kinney (2-2) allowed four runs and four hits in 5 2-3
innings to beat Ryan Glynn (5-5), who gave up nine runs _ seven
earned _ and 12 hits in three-plus innings. ``I struggled, but the team picked me up big,'' Kinney said. ``I
tried to do too much.'' Texas made four errors that led to four unearned runs. Minnesota took a 3-0 lead in the first. Guzman, Luis Rivas and
Matt Lawton hit consecutive singles and Jones hit a two-out,
two-run single. Palmeiro's three-run homer in the third followed a pair of
walks, but Jones hit a three-run homer and Guzman had an RBI single
in the bottom half of the inning for a 7-3 lead, with an error by
second baseman Luis Alicea hurting the Rangers. ``Jacque ended up hitting one real good to get us that lead
back,'' Twins manager Tom Kelly said. John Barnes, A.J. Pierzynski and Cristian Guzman each drove in a
run in the fourth to make it 10-3. Scott Sheldon homered off Danny Mota in the ninth. Notes: The Twins' 15 runs was the most by the team since April 24,
