BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- Marie Ferdinand scored 22 points and LSU broke open a tight game with a second-half run in a 77-54 victory over Liberty in the women's NCAA tournament East Regional on Friday night. LSU (23-6) led only 29-28 at halftime but made quick work of Liberty (23-8) in the second half. LSU led 34-32 with 18:42 to play when April Brown, Katrina Hibbert and Ferdinand scored four points each and DeTrina White added a basket in a 14-4 run that gave the Lady Tigers a 48-36 lead with 10:19 remaining. White later added five points from the free-throw line, Brown chipped in with a couple of baskets and Ferdinand finished off the 25-7 burst with a steal and layup to give LSU a 59-39 lead with 6:39 to play. LSU advanced to a Sunday night game against Stephen F. Austin, which beat Xavier 73-72. Ferdinand, who hit 11-of-16 shots, also had six rebounds and six assists. Brown finished with 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists. LSU twice led by 10 points in the first half, but a 3-pointer by Sharon Wilkerson gave Liberty a 24-23 lead with 3:05 left in the half. The lead changed hands five more times before halftime, the last time with 36.3 seconds left when Ferdinand hit a baseline layup to make it 29-28 at the break.
