Modin provides offense for Tampa Bay

  RECAP | BOX SCORE

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Fredrik Modin scored twice, including the go-ahead goal with 10:42 left in the third period Saturday night as the Tampa Bay Lightning snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers.

Modin scored on a wrist shot from a tough angle just below the right circle. The victory was Tampa Bay's second in its past 21 games (2-17-2).

Ray Ferraro scored for the Thrashers, 0-5-2 over the past seven games. Atlanta went 3-1-1 against the Lightning this season.

Dan Cloutier preserved the win, stopping Nelson Emerson from point-blank range with 2.1 seconds left. The Tampa Bay goalie faced 27 shots, with 14 coming in the final period.

Tampa Bay dominated play through two periods, outshooting Atlanta 24-13, but the Lightning could manage just a 1-1 tie.

Ferraro put the Thrashers up 1-0 with a power-play goal at 19:33 of the first period. It was his fourth goal and seventh point against the Lightning in five games.

Modin got the equalizer for Tampa Bay in the second period at 17:25.

Thrashers goalie Norm Maracle kept the game close, robbing Mike Sillinger with a stick save during a first-period shorthanded breakaway.
