KANATA, Ontario (AP) -- Ottawa defenseman Grant Ledyard picked a good time to score his first goal of the season.

Ledyard scored with 61 seconds left Saturday night, rallying the Ottawa Senators to a 3-2 win over the New York Rangers.

The victory snapped a five-game winless streak by the Senators, who also were on a season-high three-game home-losing streak.

"(The goal) feels good, especially after the week we've had," Ledyard said. "It's been an emotional roller coaster. We played better in the second and third periods, and it paid off for us."

Ledyard jumped on New York's clearing attempt and beat goalie Mike Richter just 53 seconds after Ottawa defenseman Chris Phillips tied the game with only his second goal.

"It's a huge victory," goalie Patrick Lalime said. "When you don't win, it's just like a snowball that keeps getting bigger and bigger."

Radek Bonk scored Ottawa's other goal to extend the Senators' unbeaten string against the Rangers to six games.

John MacLean scored a power-play goal at 10:20 of the third period to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead. Petr Nedved also scored for New York, which had a five-game road winning streak end.

"We should have won the game tonight," New York coach John Muckler said. "We gave it away on errors in our own end. There is no way we should be giving the puck away on the winning goal."

The Rangers, who entered Saturday's contest with nine victories in 11 games, had a season-high seven-game winning streak stopped Thursday with a 4-3 loss to Toronto.

"These are two losses that are hard to take," Rangers defenseman Stephane Quintal said.

Nedved opened the scoring with his 16th goal with 4:05 remaining in the first. He split defensemen Patrick Traverse and Phillips and tucked a weak shot under Lalime.

Richter stopped Marin Hossa's back-hander, but was out of position when Bonk struck for his 13th goal at 8:26 of the second.

"We played well in the first period, but we weren't able to sustain it," MacLean said.
