| | ST. LOUIS -- All-Star center Pierre Turgeon returned tothe St. Louis Blues' lineup Wednesday night after missing 24 games due to torn ligaments in his right thumb.
Turgeon suffered the injury January 29 in a 4-0 win over Colorado and was forced to miss the All-Star game. He took the opening faceoff in tonight's game against Toronto.
A five-time All-Star who reached the 1,000-point mark earlier this season, Turgeon was sixth in the NHL in scoring with 58 points and tied for third with 35 assists at the time of his injury.
He also was a major reason why the Blues were one of the top teams in the league. Without him, however, St. Louis went 17-3-4 and took over the best record in the NHL.
In 923 NHL games with Buffalo, the New York Islanders, Montreal and the Blues, Turgeon has 420 goals and 635 assists. He is in his fourth season with St. Louis.
Turgeon is one of only three active players to score at least 20 goals in 11 straight seasons. Dallas Stars right wing Brett Hull, who has done it 12 straight seasons, and Detroit Red Wings left wing Brendan Shanahan are the others. | |
